All HUM drivers are required to follow the procedures below for any accident, collision, incident, or roadside emergency occurring during a HUM trip. These steps are mandatory to ensure safety, legal compliance, and proper reporting to HUM’s insurance partners.

1. Immediate Actions at the Scene
Stop and Secure the Scene
Stop your vehicle immediately.
Turn off your engine.
Set your parking brake.
Turn on your emergency flashers.
Do not smoke near the vehicle.
Move to Safety
If the accident is minor and there are no serious injuries, move your vehicle to a safe place off the roadway.
If it is not safe to move the vehicle, remain stopped with flashers on.
Check for Injuries / Provide Immediate Care
Call 911 if anyone needs emergency medical care.
Do not move an injured person unless their life is in danger (fire risk, traffic hazard, etc.).
Notify Law Enforcement
Contact local police to report the accident.
Cooperate fully with authorities.
In many states, it is illegal to leave the scene of an accident without police permission.
Do Not Admit Fault
Do not admit fault.
Do not apologize in a way that implies responsibility.

Remain at the Scene
Stay at the scene until police arrive and give clearance to leave.
2. Required Documentation
Photos (only if safe to take)
Take photos of the accident scene before vehicles are moved, if possible.
Only take photos if it is safe and does not place you or others at risk.

After vehicles are moved, take photos of:
All vehicle damage
License plates
Driver’s licenses
Insurance cards
Any skid marks, debris, or relevant road conditions
Notes & Information Collection
Collect all information necessary for an accurate report, including:
Names and contact info of all involved drivers
Insurance information
Vehicle makes, models, colors, and plates
Witness names and contact information
Description of what happened
Time, weather, and road conditions
3. Mandatory Claims Reporting
Drivers are required to report all accidents immediately.

Verbal contact with all key parties within 24 hours
Written follow-up within 5 days

4. Roadway Emergency Stops (Breakdown or Hazard)
Stopping along a roadway is dangerous and should only occur in an emergency such as a breakdown.
If you must stop:
Pull off the roadway as far as safely possible.
Be aware of soft shoulders or slopes.
Avoid stopping on curves or any location where visibility is reduced.
Turn on your emergency flashers.
Deploy reflective safety triangles.
Do Not Attempt Repairs on the Roadside
Do not work on your vehicle on or near the roadway.
Have the vehicle towed to a safe location before beginning repairs.
5. Required Driver Conduct During Accidents
Do not admit responsibility.
Do not negotiate with other drivers.
Do not accept or offer cash settlements.
Do not discuss specifics of the accident with anyone except law enforcement, HUM, or Broadspire.
These rules protect drivers during the claim and investigation process.
